On the equivalence between compromise programming and the use of composite compromise metrics.
This paper analyzes the relationship between Compromise Programming and a close relative called Composite Programming that is based on the use of composite metrics. More specifically, it focuses on the possibility that the results of Compromise Programming are equivalent to those obtained with a particular case of Composite Programming in which a linear combination between the two bounds of the compromise set is established. Several situations, depending on the number of criteria involved and the mathematical structure of the efficient set, are studied. The most relevant result is obtained when two criteria are involved and the efficient set is continuously differentiable. In this case, it is possible to find a unique equivalent value of the control parameter in Composite Programming for each metric in Compromise Programming. It is remarked that this particular case is very relevant in many economic scenarios. On the other hand, it turns out that the equivalence between both approaches can not be extended to the case with more than two criteria.Compromise programming, composite metric, p-norms, economic optimization.
Multi-Level Batch Normalization In Deep Networks For Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Cell Discrimination In Histopathology Images
Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer and the most predominant cause of
death in women worldwide. Imaging techniques such as the breast cancer
pathology helps in the diagnosis and monitoring of the disease. However
identification of malignant cells can be challenging given the high
heterogeneity in tissue absorbotion from staining agents. In this work, we
present a novel approach for Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC) cells
discrimination in histopathology slides. We propose a model derived from the
Inception architecture, proposing a multi-level batch normalization module
between each convolutional steps. This module was used as a base block for the
feature extraction in a CNN architecture. We used the open IDC dataset in which
we obtained a balanced accuracy of 0.89 and an F1 score of 0.90, thus
surpassing recent state of the art classification algorithms tested on this
public dataset.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
Creencias de los estudiantes en torno a los Espacios Virtuales de Aprendizaje en el desarrollo de la competencia comunicativa oral. Un estudio de caso
Oral communicative competence is traditionally neglected in the development of competence of students in compulsory education. In a highly demanding social and professional context, we must contribute to communication skills in general and to oral skills in particular. Together with this, given the digital and changing context in which we find ourselves, we need to know and master new means of production and reception of messages mediated by technology. Virtual Learning Environments open up an updated field of work that allows for feedback and the extension of the spatial-temporal limits of the classroom for the development of orality
Firm Size and Regional Linkages. A Typology of Manufacturing Establishments in Southern Spain
Regions with different levels of development are characterized by
different enterprise compositions according to firm size and regional productive linkages. Using these two variables and two additional ones -the technological level and the position in the value chain-, the composition of the industrial sector in any region can be studied. In this respect, a new theoretical enterprise typology is proposed in this paper as a powerful analytical tool. Furthermore, an empirical work is carried out using a data set from the survey done to estimate the regional input-output table of Andalusia, a backward region in southern Spain. Thus, the theoretical enterprise typology is applied to the industry in Andalusia, so that some strengths and weaknesses of the regional economy are identified
A Methodology for Variability Reduction in Manufacturing Cost Estimating in the Automotive Industry based on Design Features
Organised by: Cranfield UniversitySmall to medium manufacturing companies are coming to realise the increasing importance of performing
fast and accurate cost estimates at the early stages of projects to address customersâ requests for
quotation. However, they cannot afford the implementation of a knowledge-based cost estimating software.
This paper explains the development and validation of a consistent methodology for the cost estimating of
manufactured parts (focused on pistons) based on the design features. The research enabled the
identification of the sources of variability in cost estimates, and the main one is the lack of formal procedures
for the cost estimates in manufacturing SMEs. Finally, a software prototype was developed that reduces the
variability in the cost estimates by defining a formal procedure, following the most appropriate cost
estimating techniques.Mori Seiki â The Machine Tool Compan
